Shooting Simulator

Savronik

Though Savronik’s team had experience with commercial game engines and had spent two years with another platform to start developing its advanced shooting simulator, they switched to VBS3 to meet their customers’ demanding simulation requirements much more rapidly.

VBS3 provides better overall performance, content creation tools for empowering our artists, plug and play HLA/DIS support, and a full-fledged API for creating complex systems in a short period of time.
Hikmet Safi, Project Manager, Savronik

“After evaluating VBS3, we realized it would solve most of the problems from day zero,” explains Hikmet Safi, Project Manager of ShooterSim for Savronik. “Developing features like massive terrain with multiplayer support, content-creation tools that support any format and DCC application plugins, thousands of highly detailed and functional 3D models usable in fully featured scenario editors would be overwhelming for a small team.”

“With all those challenges, that led us to look for plug-and-play solutions like VBS3. Without VBS3 and support from BISimTM, it would take us decades to create this kind of massive military simulation platform.”

Savronik was founded in 1986 to serve the Turkish defence industry. The company makes systems and products in the fields of communication, system integration and power control in accordance with the needs of air, navy and land forces.

The company’s ShooterSim provides safe and environment-friendly advanced solutions for indoor shooting training. The system provides effective training to shooters with their own real weapons and ammo (real and blank), providing real sound and blowback. It is used for marksman and sniper training as well as part of the boat/vehicle and helicopter gunners, MOUT and CQB (shoot house) simulators.

“Savronik has many custom devices on our simulation platform like scopes, laser units for weapons, vehicle and helicopter platforms and turrets to integrate VBS3,” Safi notes. “With the tremendous support of BISim and the API they offer to us, it was a very smooth process to integrate all of these devices with our custom plugins thanks to VBS3’s modular and streamlined workflow.”

In addition to the flexibility of the VBS Simulation SDK to customize the simulation and integrate other features, Safi says that the flexibility of the mission editor and after-action review are well appreciated by their customers.

“With our custom developed systems integrated to after-action review of VBS3, that gave review capability to our customer that they hadn’t imagined before,” he says. “And apart from creating custom scenarios, they also have the ability to add any functional 3D models and new terrains to VBS3, making them usable in any scenario in a short period of time.”

Speed, flexibility and support from BISim were the main reasons for choosing VBS3 over other options, Safi says.

“VBS3 is much more robust compared to what we’ve worked with before,” he says. “It provides better overall performance, content creation tools for empowering our artists, plug and play HLA/DIS support, and a full-fledged API for creating complex systems in a short period of time.”
