VBS4 and VBS Blue IG 23.2 - New Releases from BISim

Nov 23, 2023

Orlando, USA - Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a global developer of advanced simulation and training software, is announcing the latest releases of its flagship products, VBS4 and VBS Blue IG.

“It has been a massive year for VBS, and we’ve packed more game-changing updates in the 23.2 releases than ever before,” said Rahul Thakkar, president, BISim.

The new releases are now available to download via the Customer Portal.

Highlights of the new releases include:

  • VBS4 is an easy-to-use, whole-Earth virtual and constructive simulation that fully supports a huge range of military-specific collective training and mission rehearsal use cases.
  • VBS Blue IG is a high-performance, CIGI-compliant, whole-Earth image generator designed to support the full spectrum of land, sea, air, and space use cases. It integrates seamlessly with VBS4.

Both VBS4 and VBS Blue IGs are highly extendable through their software development kits, which allow you to build everything from new sensor plug-ins to highly customize the AI.

With conflict dramatically evolving and modern military organizations needing to follow suit, if you seriously need to train with high complexity and accuracy, then VBS4 and VBS Blue IG is the software you need.

“With conflict dramatically evolving and modern military organizations needing to follow suit, VBS4 and VBS Blue IG are the software solutions you need to train with high complexity and accuracy,” said Thakkar.

New VBS features in 23.2 include:

Physics-based thermal sensor - A new high-fidelity, physics-based TI sensor is implemented by default in all weapon and sensor platforms in VBS. The TI sensor includes post-aperture optics and detector simulation, allowing trainees to develop a realistic understanding of the capabilities and limitations of modern infrared sensors.

More detailed extruded buildings- The default global VBS buildings (available for free for the entire planet, extruded from OpenStreetMap) have been dramatically improved with increased detail and roof clutter. You can also now use Blackshark data with VBS.

VBS4 External Map- A new, browser-based external map is now available allowing users to view a 2D map streamed from the VBS4 server that shows the positions of all entities in the scenario. This provides a common operating picture that is very easy to use and loads directly in a web browser. It can also be configured to replicate operational C2 system performance including resolution, update rates, and symbology.

Config Patch Builder - This is a new tool added to VBS4 that allows any VBS user to modify performance characteristics of content in the VBS4 release. Users can modify engine power, torque, damper strength, mass, ammunition, muzzle velocity, and hundreds of other parameters without requiring access to the model source. This provides anyone the ability to tune the VBS4 simulation.

VBS4 User Experience Improvements - We’ve taken action on user feedback and implemented with a new quick menu as well as a new method for interacting with the environment in 3D. These updates replace the former Action Menu making it easier to use. It is also context sensitive based dependent on where the user is looking in VBS4.

VBS4 AI Behaviors - We will soon replace all legacy game AI with new behaviors that are more flexible and believable within the game experience. The first of these - advance, assault, defend, suppress, and pursue - are available in 23.2. Users can use these behaviors with elements up to platoon size.

VBS Plan ORBAT Editor - A new Order of Battle (ORBAT) editor is available in both VBS Plan and the VBS4 Editor. Users can quickly create custom, multi-echelon formations and place them in either tool.

VBS Blue IG Enhancements - Synthetic Aperture Radar is now available as a new sensor type, supporting the simulation of radar-based surveillance and target identification. We also continue to tune VBS Blue IG performance in support of customer programs such as U.S. Army RVCT.
